Description

An incredible grouping, truly museum worthy. What is here is: 1) German dog tag from World War One belonging to Jewish soldier "Ernst Israel". 2) Two "sharkskin" (waterproof covers) prayer books issued for Jewish soldiers in the German army printed in Berlin, one with a date of 1914, the other for 1915. Each are complete with no missing pages and all the pages are tight to the binding. Each book is in German and Hebrew. The 1914 example is for daily and Sabbath prayers while the 1915 example is for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur prayers. The 1914 book has a dedication dated October 2, 1916 that I can't read from a Rabbi that I cannot identify (chaplain?). 3) Pamphlet from a Synagogue in Hamburg in 1914 prayers for soldiers killed in action. 4)Pamphlet that has been rebound in hardcover from a Jewish library in Berlin during the 1920's. The title translated in English is "Intercession for our troops fighting in the field", and is dated 1914.
You may see a white line going across some of the photos, that is from my scanner which is having technical problems, those lines are not really there on the paper.
