"First, Second and Third" - 1966 GT40, 1966 Mark II, 2005 Ford GT, 2006 and 2017 Heritage Edition Ford GT
The 24 Hours of Le Mans (Grand Prix of Endurance), considered to be one of the most prestigious automobile competitions, is the world's longest running endurance race of its kind. In 1966, a remarkable win would become the defining moment in Ford's racing history, finishing in a sweep of first, second and third.
In this exhilarating painting, Michael captures the heart-pounding excitement of driving one of the world's greatest supercars on one of the world's most prominent road tracks. Open to the public, except in June during the annual 24 hours of Le Mans, this stretch of roadway, known as the Circuit de la Sarthe, lays between the city of Le Mans and the town of Mulsanne, France.
Reminiscent of that history-making event, on this stormy spring day, casting reflections of their iconic predecessors, these Ford GT drivers eat up the miles while experiencing the thrill of revisiting history. It was on these same wet roads in the picturesque French countryside, the Ford's three 1966 GT40s beat Ferrari's best during the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with an unprecedented finish of "First, Second, and Third".
