barometers and clocks are the top of the line and are made in
Germany
today and was previously Schatz . This set was made in
Germany
.
I purchased this weather set used, in
Honolulu
Hawaii
in 1970. They were obviously exposed to the ocean environment. At some time.
The movement is a KUNDO electronic quartz type that runs on standard 1.5volt “C” cell. The clock has both 12 and 24 hr time. The battery compartment has no evidence of corrosion
The top of the clock has the most corrosion spots. As these are solid brass, so they can be buffed out to a shine to match the rest of the case.
There are no chips or cracks in the glass on both instruments.
Each case has a rubber seal.
The curved thermometer is broken at the bulb and is for looks only.
The chime is standard nautical chime every 30 minutes. The clock has a switch to turn chime off if so desired.
NOTE: Ship's bells are used to indicate time onboard ship. One bell sounds for each half hour. Bells are rung in pairs to make it easier to count. Thus, for a watch starting at 12:00, one bell means 12:30, two bells mean 1:00, two bells pause 1 bell means 1:30, and so on until 4:00 ("eight bells"). This cycle starts again for the next watch.
Barometer reads pressure in mb & mmHg
(millibar & mm of mercury)
Thermometer marked 0 to 50
in degrees C. ( not functional)
Both instruments measure 3” (10cm) in diameter and are 3” tall.
They each weigh 2 ½ # solid brass.
The wood they are mounted on appears to be Hawaiian Koa. Not sure.
Total shipping weight is approx 7#
