    Description

UNUSUAL Royal Artillery other ranks brass helmet plate. Reference this badge in Kipling & King, Item #806. Research reflects this this badge was authorized circa 1871, when the gun trail was shown with rivets. The reverse side has the requisite 3 brass screw studs with securing nuts. BUT there are 5 brass srew posts on the top half of the plate, covered with 3 layers of very thin leather. Possible use as a pouch badge.
