Unusual and rare Essex Regiment gilt and silver officer waist belt clasp worn 1881 -1902. 11 years!!! No known buckle with a king's crown. This buckle with a very special pattern represents the uniting of the 44th and 56th Regiments. A silver oak wreath surrounds a circle with the regimental title. A red enamel sheild to the centre has the arms of Essex, with a 3 tower silver castle below with key and a silver sphinx above over the title EGYPT. All on gilt background.
